Water Filters

Water filters in St Ives and Cambridgeshire

Ultrapure supplies quality water filters which purify the tap water coming directly from your mains water supply. The filters trap contaminants within porous carbon, preventing them from coming out of your tap. This differs from boiling or chemically treating the water which kills some of the contaminants but does not remove them. We supply across St Ives, Ely, Huntingdon, and Cambridgeshire.

Benefits of water filters

  • Reduces chlorine and other contaminants resulting in better-tasting and smelling drinking water in your home.
  • If you regularly buy bottled water, you will save money by installing a filter system and it is more environmentally friendly!
  • Selectively removes dangerous contaminants such as lead whilst retaining healthy mineral deposits.
  • Removes limescale from drinking water.
  • Water filters can also be used as a pre-filter for a water softener or reverse osmosis system.

The filters are easy to fit and easy to change. Typically water filters should be changed at 6 month intervals as per manufacturers' recommendations. The most common filters that Ultrapure supply are detailed below.
water filters

Granular activated carbon (GAC) filter

  • The filter membrane consists of highly porous carbon with a large surface area. The pollutants are attracted to and held to the carbon surface.
  • This type of filter is primarily used to improve taste and odour (by removing chlorine) but also removes some harmful contaminants.
  • Best suited for the removal of organic compounds.

Carbon block filter

  • The membrane in carbon block filters has a uniform pore structure which is effective at removing a larger number of contaminants due to the increased surface area.
  • As well as removing taste and odour, block filters reduce particulates, lead, microscopic cysts, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and other contaminants.
  • The pore size can be small enough to virtually eliminate bacterial growth inside the filter.

Scale reduction filter

These are a variant of the GAC filter but with the addition of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grade phosphate crystals which reduce limescale deposits and rust stains.

    Silver impregnated filter

Another variant of a GAC whereby the carbon surface is impregnated with silver ions to prevent the growth of bacteria.
